Sugar Free Is NOT Calorie Free, February 14, 2013
    By

This review is from: Citrucel Sugar Free Fiber Therapy, Orange, 16.9-Ounce Canister (Pack of 2) (Health and Beauty)
I’ve been taking Sugar Free Citrucel for years. It has kept my Irritable Bowel Syndrome under control to the extent that I practically never have a problem anymore.

But I recently looked more carefully at the label and saw that the Sugar Free Citrucel contains maltodextrin which contributes 24 calories, so taking it three times a day was adding 72 calories to my diet.

I’ve just switched to the caplet version, which only contains a half a calorie per two caplet dose.

Citrucel sugar free tastes similar to Tang breakfast drink. I like the taste but, more than the taste is that it doesn’t cause gas like the psyllium based products. I mix mine up in water, but I understand others mix it in orange or pineapple juice. Drink it as soon as you mix it up because as it sits it gets thick. I use it everyday, so I just signed up for the Amazon subscribe and save program and now my cost is less than $13 a canister.

Citrucel tastes like old school Tang (not bad) and it doesn’t cause excess gas. It takes a few doses to get the gears working but it doesn’t cause stomach pain (like a Ducolax). Only problem is that if your doctor recommends regular use – it ends up costing about $30 a month.
