This review is from: Cos5 Halls Sugar Free Honey Lemon Flavor of Triple Soothing Action Fast Relief Cough Suppressant – 3 Bags of 25 Cough Drops (75 Drops Total) (Misc.)
Pros: 1) Taste okay for a cough drop, 2) Don’t leave as much of a gross film on your mouth as sugary cough drops do, 3) Relatively inexpensive, 4) Recommended dose is effective against fairly mild coughs. Cons: 1) Moderate to severe coughs require a dose that wrecks your insides, 2) Slightly unpleasant/medicinal after taste.

My Story: This week, I came down with the flu, complete with a violent, persistent cough. Not wanting to cough my throat to shreds, I bought some Hall’s Sugar Free cough drops in Honey Lemon and Assorted Mint. (The Assorted Mint tastes better, but the Honey Lemon isn’t bad.) For the first few days, I would consume no more than 3-4 cough drops per day, as I did not care for the medicinal after taste. However, on Saturday, I had my little sister’s pageant–an all day affair–to attend. If I were to miss it, I knew it would break her heart; but I also knew that my incessant coughing would disgust and outrage all in attendance. So, at 8am, I loaded up my purse with Puff’s Plus Lotion Facial Tissues and Hall’s Sugar Free cough drops and headed to the pageant.
I discovered almost immediately that the only way to limit my horrendous (and by now, painful) hacking was to keep a constant stream of Hall’s Sugar Free cough drops in my mouth. Before one cough drop dissolved completely, another was added. The cough drop brigade only halted long enough for me to eat a sandwich at lunch. And then it was back to business.
Fast forward to 3pm: My stomach started to feel slightly queasy. I found that odd. 4pm: My sister was just crowned the winner of her age group, and my stomach gurgled an angry objection. I found that even more odd. 4:15: From my stomach to my shoulders, I suddenly felt a wave of cramping pain. I found that odder yet, and started to genuinely worry. By 5:30, the pageant had ended, and it was very clear to me that pure evil was brewing within my intestines. My worry quickly turned to panic, and I rushed home as if my life depended on it.
I won’t describe the intestinal carnage that ensued, but it is now 10:30pm, and my Imodium seems to be fighting an un-winnable war. Just when I think my bowels must be clean as a whistle, I am proven wrong, time and time again. This has given me time to catch up on my reading–i.e., reading of the back of my package of Hall’s Sugar Free cough drops. I see now that in the time it took me to consume approximately 15-25 cough drops, I should have only had 4. But in my defense, 4 drops were virtually ineffective, and who actually reads the directions on cough drop bags?
In conclusion, I think I will stick with the sugary cough drops from now on. I’m just not sure that violating my innards with that Sucralose nightmare was worth the temporary coughing relief these cough drops provided me.
So, unless you want to lose weight in an excruciating way….then for the love of God, use Hall’s Sugar Free Cough Drops only as directed.
