This is a pretty decent sweetener. They say that one packet gives you the same amount of sweetness that you would have in two teaspoons of sugar. Not bad, and it can be very helpful for people who have sugar issues like diabetes. It would certainly be much better than sugar itself. I also like that it is kosher and there is a pretty fair amount of it as well (300 packets per item).

Having said that, if you really want to get the best value for the money, then I think you should look for something a bit more concentrated. This one is a very solid formulation of stevia: Pure Stevia Powder (3.5 oz). This also does not come in individual packets, so you can better control the amounts that you use. Plus, it only takes a little bit since it is so concentrated. I would really recommend something like this, especially for those of you with a sensitive stomach or digestive systems.

I drink a LOT of coffee, and I use a lot of sugar in my coffee. I switched from sugar to Truvia over a year ago. Between that starting to play some recreational soccer once a week I’ve lost 40 lbs.

I also stopped drinking soda and switched to the Sobe Lifewater 10 Cal and Vitamin Water ZERO. This coincidentally also use either Purvia, or Truvia. Both of these are just branded versions of the stevia extract.

The taste of Truvia is very close to sugar. There is a very very slight aftertaste. The significant difference I have noticed is I don’t have the lingering sweetness in my mouth that makes me want another, often unnecessary, cup of coffee or can of soda.

I was delighted when I found another sweetener that seemed to be based on stevia and not aspartame or chlorine (clorinated sugar, that is, as in Splenda). But after I used up my first box, which was not the most enjoyable experience (had a bad aftertaste), I decided to boycott the stuff.

The mix of erythritol and rebiana goes through a patented process that is controlled by the same big companies that manage aspartame. Some of it starts out with stevia but the same could be said of Splenda and sugar; the whole ends up being truly artificial in substance. Just say ‘no’. Look for a stevia sweetener that consists of stevia, not some big company’s invention.

The stuff I’m using now is absolutely wonderful. It’s called SweetLeaf.
